Project - In Class, End of first semester

​Design and build a model / representation of a neuron.  Include details of the neuron and the synaptic transmission.  Label the main parts of your model.  Present your model neuron to the class. This is a small group (2-3 students per group) project.  Project is due at the end of your class period on December 18th or 19th. Work on creating your model and papers is to be completed in class.
 
Two papers will accompany your project.  Type papers in standard APA format – 1 inch margins, size 12 Times New Roman font, double spaced.  
 
A.      Respond to the following questions.  Use complete sentences in paragraph format.
  1.       What did you use for the cell body?  Explain why.
  2.        What did you use for the myelin sheath?  Explain why.  What are the functions of this part of the neurotransmission process?
  3.       What did you use for the axon?  Explain why. What is the function of this part of a neuron?
  4.       What did you use for the synaptic gap?  Explain why.  What specifically happens at this juncture?
  5.       What did you use for the dendrites? Explain why. What is the function of this part of a neuron?
  6.       What did you use for a terminal button?  Explain why.  Why is this part given this name?
 
B.      Report on your neurotransmitter.  Provide details that include functions and malfunctions, influence on behavior, influence of drugs and other chemicals, and research.     
 
Neurotransmitters:  Acetylcholine, dopamine, serotonin, norepinephrine, epinephrine, GABA, glutamate and endorphins. 
 
Project will be worth 50 points.  Points will be awarded based on content, creativity and appearance.
